Street Pastors

Whitfield Parish is active in Glossopdale Street Pastors, along with Glossop Catholic Churches, Elim Pentecostal Church, Carmel Church in Hadfield and Tintwistle and Glossop United Reformed Church. Since starting in March 2015, we have had people walking around the town centre every Saturday night, from 10pm-2am, and have become well known to regular Saturday night revellers and the door staff in town centre pubs.

Our role is to listen, help and care. In practice this involves smiling at everyone, chatting to anyone who wants to talk, picking up glass bottles (which could be used as weapons), sweeping up broken glass and offering flip-flops to protect the feet of women walking barefoot late at night. We have supported people who are waiting for an ambulance and some who are too drunk to get home safely alone.

We also have Prayer Pastors who pray for the Street Pastors while they are on the streets
