Questions

You can use some of these in Growth Groups or alone:

Read through Luke 14:12-24 (you can get more of the context by reading verses 1-11 first)

  • Jesus has been invited to a meal at a Pharisee’s house. How do you think the guests felt about the parable that Jesus told?
  • How might we unintentionally show favouritism like the Pharisees in the way that we live – or as a church?
  • What sort of people would you find it most difficult to invite to a church event, service or Alpha Course and why?
  • The people who can’t come to the banquet seem to have good excuses. Do you think Jesus is being too harsh or unreasonable by using these examples?
  • If Jesus told his parable today, what examples do you think he would use as excuses for not going to the banquet? What things do we most easily put before God in our lives?

What can I pray for?

  • Thy Kingdom Come continues this week – an annual 10-day prayer event for churches across the UK. Here are a few ways you can take part:
    • By downloading the app from their website here
    • By using the Prayer Journal, which you can find by clicking here
    • By watching the series of videos on the Thy Kingdom Come YouTube channel here
    • By praying for 5 people you know who you would like to come to know Jesus for the first time.
  • Please also pray for Christian Aid. Last week was Christian Aid week, but it’s not too late to pray or give! You can find out more about our local support in Glossopdale here
  • Drop in to St James’ Church building on Sunday 23rd between 4-5pm to pray – there will be prayer activities set out around the church to help you.
