How to watch on YouTube/Smart TV

You can use some of these in Growth Groups or alone:

Read through Matthew 6:9-15

  • How can we avoid “babbling like pagans” when we say the Lord’s Prayer?
  • Why do you pray?
  • In what circumstances would you find it difficult to forgive someone?
  • If you do not forgive someone who has wronged you, how can that cause further damage to you? (Physically, mentally, spiritually?)
  • In what ways does verse 15 make you uneasy?
  • Explain what is meant by the statement: “to forgive someone is not the same as to condone their actions”.
  • Should we hold people to account for their actions?
    • How is that different from holding a grudge?
  • In each of verses 14 and 15, the first “forgive” is present tense – if we forgive now… The second “forgive” is future tense – your heavenly Father will forgive you at a later time. (that’s how it is in the original Greek)
    • What other Bible verses does this bring to mind?
(You could try looking at Matthew 25:31-46; Ephesians 4:32; Hebrews 9:27-28; Revelation 20:12)
  • How might these thoughts impact on our prayers for the future of our parish?

What can I pray for?

  • Pray yourself: Take time to ask for God’s forgiveness – that he would forgive you as you forgive others.
  • Pray for our community: that young people especially today would not be ‘led into temptation’ and would be ‘delivered from evil’.
  • Pray for our church – that God’s kingdom would come and his will would be done
  • Pray for those in our world who don’t know that they will have ‘daily bread’ or ‘daily food’ today – especially those affected by Climate Change. You can find some information about the poorest countries here: and watch a Tearfund Video about the impact in Burkina Faso & Niger here
